Book a Breakthrough Call

Living a Mindful Life

Jul 19, 2019
A super small thing you can do to make a lasting impact on your gratitude scale is replacing the word ‘have’ with ‘get.’ Let’s practice.

“I have to drop the kids off at school.” Vs. “I get to drop the kids off at school.”

“I have to go to that meeting.” Vs. “I get to go to that meeting.”

“I have to work out.” Vs. “I get to work out.”

In 2018, I was interviewed for something called the Mama Knows Best Summit. We talked about how making small changes to your day-to-day can leads to tremendous influence on your overall life.

When you replace ‘have’ with ‘get,’ your brain starts to process that action not as a required task, but a sought-after action. When you see things differently, they feel different, and you feel different. Period.

“I have to drop the kids off at school,” translates to “This is part of my day-to-day, and I need to get it done. Nothing fancy about that.”

“I get to drop the kids off at school,” translates to “My schedule allows me the flexibility and opportunity to do this for my littles.”

“I have to go to that meeting,” translates to “The content won’t be interesting, and I could be doing something else if I didn’t have to be there.”

“I get to go to that meeting,” translates to “My position allows me to be part of the discussion and contribute to the plans and outcome when it comes to that topic.”

“I have to go to the gym,” translates to “I need to work out because I’m too fat, not strong enough, or need to lose weight.”

“I get to go to the gym,” translates to “I’m excited to improve my body, get stronger, or look better.”

See the difference? This is huge. This is motivating. This is highlighting things and opening your eyes to realizing that whatever you get to do is something you want to do rather than something you need or have to do. This is living in a mindful life, and this is life-changing.
