You Tired? Do This Anyway

Aug 23, 2019
Being tired is the story of my life. Is it the story of yours too? I’m going to guess yes. Kids wear you down. Kids keep you up. Kids deplete you of energy, no matter how many coffees or green smoothies or energy boosting supplements you have in a day. You are likely still tired AF most days.

Here’s the deal though. Even if you’re tired. Even if you’d rather snooze. Even if your bed presents itself to you in the most welcoming, warm, and persuasive way possible, do these things anyway. You will be happy you did.

Put on make-up. Take 5-10 minutes to put some make-up on every damn day. Looking good makes you feel good and do good. Sleeping an extra 5-10 minutes isn’t going to make a huge difference in your day. Putting make-up on will. Choose make-up.

Thank God, thank the universe, thank someone. The reason you’re tired is also the reason you live for. The tiny humans you’re raising likely are what you’ve always wanted and always dreamed of. Stop forsaking the rough, sleepless patch you’re in right now. It will pass. Be grateful you’re living it.

Stop talking about how tired you are. It’s not a badge of honor. Babies don’t sleep. This is your life (for now). You’re not a better mom just because you’re a tired a mom. Sorry, not sorry.

Shower daily. Be honest, maybe you’re not doing this as frequently as you’d like, especially if you don’t have childcare or support. Showering not only cleans you and makes you feel like a normal person again, it also wakes you up, reenergizes you, and motivates you to do great things. So, take a damn shower.

Go on the date. If you have childcare, don’t use it to do something monotonous. Get dressed up and go out. Do something for you, for your sanity. The effort of getting dolled up and not wearing something stretchy can often feel like the last thing you want to do when you’re tired, but I guarantee you’ll feel better after you’ve had an adult meal at an adult restaurant with another adult having adult conversation.

I’m just a mom, tired AF lying in bed, writing this post, wanting to keep it real, and also inspire another mom. And now, I’m going to sleep.
